What You Need To Do Before Your Long-Awaited Beach Holiday

Few holidays are as stereotypical as charging down to the beach for some sand, surf and sea. But there’s a reason why that’s so — the beach is a fun-filled destination that the whole family can enjoy, no matter how many times you’ve been before.

Even so, there is potential for trouble during a beach holiday, especially if you’re not prepared. Rough seas, sun stroke, accommodations not being up to scratch — these are just some of the things that could go wrong if you don’t do your research.

Choosing where to go

Sounds easy enough but you should be careful nonetheless. It’s all very well saying “I want to go to the Costa del Sol”, but which beach will you choose? Do you even know any of the beaches there? If you want a ton of amenities and attractions, a popular tourist beach is your best bet, but the downside is the crowds. Lonely beaches offer privacy, but this is often a tradeoff for the kinds of services on offer. Think about what you want from your beach holiday, do your research and choose carefully.

Booking a hotel

While the more carefree traveler may decide to just turn up and see what their options are, for most of us it’s a whole lot easier just to book a room before. Be careful of this — we’ve all heard these nightmare stories of what looks like an idyllic resort actually turning out to be a building site, a good mile or so from the beach!

Such a scenario can be avoided, simply by spending time doing your research. Check online (Google Maps is a great resource) for hotels and resorts at your intended destination — don’t just accept what the travel agent offers you. Be sure to look for genuine, trusted reviews from real travelers and make sure the place you choose really is as good as it sounds.

Packing for the beach

Keep in mind that you might need to pack different things depending on your destination. For example, if you’re travelling to a five-star resort, most of the things you desire will already be there. If your ideal beach holiday is more of a lonely desert island paradise however, bear in mind that it may not be possible to buy all of the essentials when you arrive. Listed below are some of the most important things you should bring to the beach:

  1. Beach bag. How else do you expect to carry all of this stuff you are bringing? Make sure the bag is light and can be easily washed and cleaned because it will surely get tons of sand on it or in it during the holiday.
  2. Bring flip-flops not shoes and sneakers. They are the best beach footwear. Don’t walk barefoot or you might get a cut walking over a shell or burn the bottom of your feet on the hot sand.
  3. Pack 2 or 3 swimming suits. There’s probably going to be a time when you want to go for a late night swim, however you might change your mind after grabbing that damp and wet bathing suit you used earlier in the day.
  4. Sunglasses. You’ll definitely regret forgetting your pair of sunglasses when you go to the beach shop on the boardwalk and buy a pair of horrible sunglasses for a ridiculous price.
  5. Sunscreen. In any travel bring lots of sunscreen because you will probably be in the sun the majority of the time. Look at the label and get a sunscreen that is at least SPF 30 and waterproof.

Hat. A hat will keep the glare of the sun out of your eyes and keep you cool.

Beach holidays are really exited, especially myrtle beach in south carolina is a beautiful beach with white sand, shopping, parks, seafood restaurants and many more. Visit once in your life time.
